What is Zooterra?
Zooterra is a patent-pending platform that offers a direct, transparent and fun way to help protect wildlife and natural habitats.
Why was Zooterra created?
Nature has never been more vulnerable as we go through Earth’s 6th mass extinction, yet people are not compelled to put enough money behind wildlife and habitat conservation. When we consider contributing to nature conservation, we often wonder “where is my money going?” and “how can I tell I’ve made an impact?.” Furthermore, the current experience lacks personalization and people are not able to build a connection to distant places and species which is needed for them to become more engaged. Zooterra is working to bridge these gaps.
How does Zooterra work?
On Zooterra, you can buy a token or product bundle associated with wildlife and natural areas from around the world. Proceeds directly support a specific project linked to the token’s habitat, wildlife or local community. Each purchase contains a limited-edition artistic representation of the wildlife that it supports and project and country badges. As you add collectibles and badges from around the world, you are building your Guardian portfolio while getting stories about the areas supported and the conservation work on the ground.
What are Zooterra tokens?
Zooterra digital tokens are unique collectibles associated with specific wildlife and natural areas around the world. They work like product bundles as they include a combination digital wildlife collectibles, project and country badges, a set of stories from the ground and support to a specific project.
What are wildlife collectibles?
Wildlife collectibles are digital representation of animal species and included in each token. A limited number of each wildlife collectible is issued based on the conservation status of the species (see below). Once the full quantity of a particular animal representation is issued, that collectible will no longer be available. A new representation might be issued to have a wildlife collectible for that animal in the future
Wildlife Collectibles by Conservation Status:
Critically endangered – 5,000
Endangered - 7,500
Vulnerable - 10,000
Nearly threatened - 20,000
Least concern - 50,000
How does Zooterra impact the environment?
70% of the proceeds from each terra sale go to projects linked to the natural areas and wildlife selected by you. The rest supports company operations, building the Guardian community, and conducting analytics. You will be able to see the projects that you are supporting when you buy a token and then get updates on the progress being made towards helping specific habitats and species.
What types of projects am I supporting?
By purchasing a terra you are directly supporting a conservation project related to the broader natural area where the terra is located. The projects could support the habitat, wildlife or people in the local community which are interconnected in the success of preserving the natural area. The projects are predetermined and disclosed as part of the terra description.
How are conservation projects chosen?
The project will be determined by the needs and opportunities of the area and by the availability of suitable partners to execute on the ground.
Can I track my impact?
Personalization is core to the experience on Zooterra. We give Guardians background on the impact of the projects supported by their specific tokens and provide periodic updates. We are also exploring providing satellite image analysis to provide habitat health status in the future.
What do I need to participate?
You need a web browser and a credit card to identify the tokens you want to purchase and make a payment.
Are Zooterra tokens blockchain crypto collectibles?
The Zooterra tokens are digital collectibles and are not currently available on the blockchain as crypto collectibles. However, we are very excited about the potential of blockchain and envision a day when Zooterra collectibles could also live on the blockchain. In the future, if there is strong interest from the Zooterra community and penetration of crypto currencies and use of digital wallets such as Metamask increase, we might link each terra to an Ethereum ERC721 token so that terras can be exchanged in crypto collectible marketplaces such as OpenSea.
What type of organization is Zooterra?
Zooterra is a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) using a market-based approach for environment conservation. Zooterra has a triple bottom line as it aims to generate business value through environmental, social, and financial benefits.
Are token purchases tax deductible?
Zooterra is a public benefit corporation, not a charity, and, therefore, purchases on the platform are not tax deductible. Based on the new U.S. tax code, it is estimated that 92% of US households will claim the standard deduction starting with the 2018 tax returns, which means that you would have likely not itemized a contribution to Zooterra even if it was tax deductible. Please consult your accountant for any tax-related advice.
